For National Recovery Month, Sesame Collective is donating $1 for every craft non-alcoholic cocktail sold this September to the Alano Club of Portland, a nonprofit that has been dedicated to providing recovery support to the community for over 60 years.

Yalla's Da Capo Al Coda: aplos arise. smoked cherry. lemon. egg white

The support behind this program is personal for Sesame Collective, and it's two-fold. For one, substance abuse is an ongoing challenge within the restaurant industry. Both of Sesame Collective's owners, Kasey Mills and Laura Amans, have been sober for years and have worked to shift the culture around drinking within the company.

MEC's Worth a Chai: masala chai. pineapple. anise. almond. cardamom. lime

"Years ago, we moved away from shift beers and brought in the Employee Assistance Program, an ongoing system that could support people in mental health and wellbeing," Laura said. "We also developed a wellness fund that each location has to spend to recognize and show appreciation for the team."

Dolly Olive's Espress Yourself: n/a coffee liqueur. espresso. vanilla. n/a bitters

It's also a fun challenge for our bar teams, who've come up with inventive, well-rounded drinks using new non-alcoholic spirits.

"It feels like there's some life being breathed into N/A that never was in the past," Beverage Director Joanna Scarpelli said. "It feels exciting to be inclusive. No matter whether you're imbibing alcohol or not, you can have a wide variety of beautifully crafted drinks."

Shalom Y'all's None the Wiser: pathfinder 'amaro'. lemon. mint. tonic

Whether you drink alcohol and are just curious, want something fun to go with your lunch, or you're sober, stop by any of our restaurants this September to try these drinks — and support the Alano Club of Portland along the way. Learn more about their work at portlandalano.org.
